I couldn’t wait to play with these after I posted about them in the Shopping Haul – Nail Supplies post I did a few weeks back.
I don’t have too much experience with Essie Nail Polishes, so this kit was an opportunity to try them out and see if I liked them. At around $10 a bottle normally, getting these 4 mini bottles for under $3 was a great chance to try the brand.
I realize these aren’t formulated like the normal polishes, as these have special qualities to them, but I think I can still get a general sense of the polish as a whole.
This was a Limited Edition Collection, called the Leathers Collection, a collab with Rebecca Minkoff, who is a purse designer.
The Colours from Left to Right:
Cross Body Heat – Lilac with micro glitter
Back in the Saddle – Forest Green with micro glitter
Tote-ally in Love – Red Wine with micro glitter
in hot Purse-uit – Royal Blue with mirco glitter
This polish is really easy to work with, the only one that is a bit tricky is the lilac, it seems just a bit thicker than the others. All but the blue seem to totally opaque with just one coat.
They all have a really pretty semi matte finish to them, which does sort of look like leather.
With a second coat, the lilac seems a bit more glossy, and the others do to a point as well. The second coat also fixed all the issues that the blue had on the first coat.
I like the finish of the first coat better, it truly does look like leather.
I don’t know how to topcoat these, and keep their unique look. With a gloss, they would become glossy, with a matter, they wouldn’t have their semi finish.
They will look great no matter what. I feel like they should have supplied a topcoat that worked with this formula in the kit, but they probably couldn’t solve the problem themselves.
All in all I like the experience with these, and might have to venture into the regular Essie collection, and see if there are any I might like to get.
‘Til Tomorrow
I like the semi-matte finish too!
