I don’t know why, but I really enjoy reading Empties posts. It is one of the mysteries of my mind.
When I initially started to save my items to maybe do one of these posts myself, I really didn’t think I’d go through enough product to justify a whole post to it. I decided to do it by season, thinking that might help. I do go through a bit more than I would have though. I have a bad habit(not so much with makeup) of rotating different things each week or two. So I never have just one body wash or hand cream on the go. This is something I should probably try to stop doing. Or maybe limit myself to 2 of the same item, instead of 5, haha.

I love this whole line of Hair Masks! I started to have issue with my hair self dreading overnight, for a good year and a bit, which was driving me nutty. This product helped get my hair back to a point where it wasn’t doing that so quickly, which I am really grateful for. While I do have an undercut now, so the issue doesn’t arise anymore, this mask does help with my chlorine issues, as my hair gets super damaged and crispy with pool water. I have 2 backups of this product, and will probably get a replacement for this specific one, as I love the honey one. I give these out as gifts, as I like them so much. I use them on my Daughter’s bad spot too, once a week.
TRESemme – Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray
I don’t use much hairspray. My favorite brand for hairspray is Schwarzkopf, but it can be hard for me to find physically, where I live. So when I need spray, and can’t find my beloved one, I use TRESemme. I really like that you can just look at their cans, and they have it all numbered. So if you want a spray that can stand you hair straight up in the air and stay there for 8 hours, that is easy to find. This one is a #4, and it really does keep your hair in its hold really well. This is not a hairspray for getting natural bounciness. This is to make a masterpiece and have it stick. Stick so hard you can poke an eye out. I will definitely get this again if I can’t find my other spray.
I use this when I want nice hair without a bunch of gunk in it. It smells great too, and is very light on the hair, while still getting results. It can be refreshed with dampened hands in the morning, so you don’t have to respray your hair at all. My youngest son helped me finish this, as he thought his Orca might want to swim in the sink with some of this in there. I think he might have used 1/5 of the bottle in there. He said he likes the smell of it, so it is young child approved. It did not improve the condition of his Orca, it still sank.
Avon – Advanced Techniques Detangling Spray
This is a really nice product. It works well on straight and curly hair. I used it myself(curly) and on my daughter(straightish). She seems to rub her head a lot in her sleep, so she always has this one spot that gets super bad. This helps make the mornings go smoothly, or I’d have to spend a good 15 minutes brushing her hair.
LA Coupe Salon – Perfect Curls Pumped Up Curl Boosting Spray
My sister brought this back from a trip to Montreal for me. It is really good at keeping my curls intact and not splitting(they like to try to separate, which causes me to have a big mess). It also keeps the frizz down. It has a pleasant, soft scent. The spray nozzle gets gunked all the time, so I usually apply it with my hands, which is how I prefer to do this type of stuff anyway. Not sure how I’d get my hands on some more, but if given the chance, I’d get it again.
I haven’t tried too many Dry Shampoos, but this one works just fine. It is easy to work into your hair, comes in all sorts of scents, has travel sizes of most of them. It really does save time, when you don’t have that much. A lifesaver for a mom with 3 kids. I use this when traveling and when at the pool and my hair isn’t going to end up wet(so normally when I take the kids and am not working out in the pool).
Garnier Nutrisse – Rich Nourishing Conditioner Cream
I love these little tubes that always come in with your hair dye boxes. I find that they really do a great job with your hair, dyed or not. If I don’t end up using the whole tube while my hair is still coloured, I often will save these for the summer to use as hair masks. I have started to bring them to the pool as well when I want to use them up. They always make my hair feel great after it is all crunchy from the chlorine.
Vaseline – Intensive Care Dry Skin Repair
I really do love this product. I have bought probably 6 of the big ones, and 3 of the little tubes over the last few years. My man enjoys this one too. I use this mostly on my knuckles and around my nose. I can have issues in those places, specially if I have allergies. I use this everyday as well, and have used it on my whole body from time to time. I am not looking forward to when this gets discontinued, but so far all the stores have still had this stocked in Canada. I will continue to buy this as long as it is in stock, and try to keep an extra at home at all times.
I talked about this one in my Product Favorites of May post. I had never tried anything from this brand, and a spray on moisturizer seemed a little weird, but what they hey, let’s try it. After using it for even longer now, I can say it really does make our swim routine that much faster for the kids and I. We did end up taking this traveling, so when we went to the lakes and beaches, this was something I put on them all after drying off. I wouldn’t use this as an everyday item, but it really is a time saver when you are the only adult, and are trying to get everyone moisturized. This product also lasts a decent amount of time for an aerosol. I have another one of these in the olive scent, which we are currently using. Not sure if I will repurchase this specific brand again, but it has sold me on aerosol moisturizers.
I posted about this one in my Product Favorites April post. I enjoyed this scrub. It did even and brighten my skin somewhat. I loved the smell of it. I didn’t like the little sand-like particles in the formula, I often had to double or triple rise my face, to try to get them out, and they would clog up my little face exfoliation pad thing I use to scrub my face. I didn’t have any bad reactions to this. I’d buy it again in a bind, but I think I want to find something with less particles in it.
e.l.f. Makeup Mist & Set
I have to admit, before buying this, I had never used a facial mist before. It just wasn’t a thing back when I was still in the beauty community. Since I barely ever wear a full face of makeup, I didn’t think I’d need something like this, so that is why I tried the e.l.f. version as my first step into Facial Mists. It does seem to help keep makeup lasting a bit longer, and it is refreshing to spray on your face, especially if it is hot, or you are flustered. I do find that it helps powders meld into the skin. Is it the best out there, I doubt it, but it does seem to do something extra. The thing I really like about this, and the whole reason why it is now empty, is it is great to use with certain eyeshadows. You just spray it on your brush, dip into your shadow, and apply. It really makes packing pigments so much easier, and I now have a few loose pigments from MAC, NYX and others. So that is why it is all used up mostly. I will repurchase just for that use, as it really is so handy and helpful.
I will forever use this product, as I will always have issues with chemical burns. My hands hate cleaners of any sort, and I am a horrible person and just don’t like rubber gloves, so I’d rather get the burns, than wear the gloves. It is stupid, I know. Thankfully this hand cream does heal up my hands nicely. I typically get the irritations on top of my knuckles, and a bit along my thumb. Sometimes even on the underside of my fingers. This normally clears it up in under 36 hours(depending on the severity of the burns).
Been using this product for ages, and will continue to do so. This is the current scent I am obsessed with, although they have a new Vanilla Pumpkin one out now with really beautiful packaging, that I am tempted to get, especially now that this one is empty. I still have another half a jar of this scent in another tub, in my purse. This one was the one I keep by my computer, so I legit put this one before I write my posts. It is so soothing, and does wonderful things to my hands. That is mostly what I use this one for. I use the Mango, Almond or Shea for my body, and keep a big one in the bathroom.
I really don’t like the smell of this. That being said, this does wonderful things to me face, so I stick it out. How can it smell so bad(at least to me) yet make my face so wonderful? Not sure, but I figure it is like Buckley’s, Smells Awful, but it Works! I will be getting a bigger bottle of this, and washing this one out for refills, because it was part of that travel kit, and I sort of want to keep it all together and complete. This is probably one of the most interesting products I have tried so far this year.
I did a post not to long ago about this product. While bar soaps aren’t my think, this is a really nice soap for my feet. I do sometimes get little flares of eczema on the tops of my feet, and this doesn’t aggravate it at all. It is super gentle. It has some granules in it, that make for a really good scrubbing bar. It also keeps my feet super soft. Love this, and I keep multiple backups on hand at all times.
This is a staple in my live at this point. My sister bought me my first one way back when. She was always in pursuit of things that would work with my allergies, sensitivities and eczema. I go through probably 7 of these a year, would be more if I didn’t use other balms too, but I like spreading the love. There is a funny little story, called “The Hunt for Cucumber Bees” that you can read if you want, about my search for the Cucumber Mint Flavour. I used it up so fast, it was so good! Luckily I have seen it somewhere now, so wont have to get my husband find it again.
This is a great product to use to protect your lips. I use this in the winter when on doing outdoor winter sports, and in the summer when at the beach or outdoor pool. It tastes horrible, but it does it’s job at protecting your lips. Just remember not to lick your lips, is all, haha. I have to buy another one, so I have some for my upcoming Dominican Republic Trip.
I Finally used up the last of this when the cold weather started to hit. This is a Canadian Staple for cold weather, and every household up here probably has a few of these hidden about. I’ll be going out and getting a replacement soon, as temperatures are dropping every day right now. This poor canister has seen better days, but I like its character, so I might have to reuse this for something.
Maybelline – Lip Polish High Shine Colour
The name of this is funny, as it doesn’t have any colour at all. It is a clear gloss with sparkles, basically. I loved this as a lip topper and it was a cheaper version of the Lancome Star Gloss I was obsessed with in the early 2000’s. I have a new gloss that is just as pretty, if not more, than this one now, so this is going to be retired.
Avon – Glazewear Liquid Lip Colour
I love these and have bought a good number of tubes over the years. I’ve been wanting to get some new colours, and figured I should use up what I had first. I have been using these weekly since about May, normally on top of a dry down liquid lipstick. These have gotten to the point that scrapping them doesn’t get much product out, and the product that is left is rather thick and chunky. I feel like I did a really good job with these! I have other lipglosses to use, and will probably wait until xmas to get myself so more of these.
Loved this mascara! Used it almost every day on my bottom lashes. Creates such a soft, even coat that looks utterly natural. The formula is really nice to work with. I also find that while this is marketed as a black, it has a hint of blue in it, so I really like that. I have another that I got as a gift with purchase, so once I have some current mascaras rotated out, I will start using this again.
The formula of this mascara was very lovely. I like a really thin and wet mascara. The wand was easy to work with too. This wasn’t a waterproof mascara, which I was bummed about once I got it home, but thought I might as well use it. ended up not minding it too much, but often used it in conjunction with other waterproof mascaras. Great one to get the initial length you want for you lashes, before applying something on top.
e.l.f. – Eyeshadow Primer in Pearl
I hadn’t ever primed me eyelids in anything but a paler eyeshadow before using this product. I will say that it really does help colours pop more. I am not sure this one helps with wear time as much as other on the market might, but that will be an experiment for another day. I’d purchase this again, as it did just fine. I do have some other eyelid primers to try out first though, so it might be a bit before I grab another one.
I have been enjoying this brow product, and have gone though this one, and half of another since discovering it. It is so easy to use. I already have big, bushy eyebrows, and am not a fan of the super drawn in look, so this gives me a more natural fill. It really does last as well, I can swim with these on, and come out of the pool with perfect brows. Definitely a staple of mine now.
Avon – Glimmersticks Eyeliners
I have used various colours of these for a while now, and enjoy them very much. They have the control of a pencil, a creamy feeling, and are twistup. A favorite for my purse. I wanted to use these two up, as I have other things I want to try. I will be repurchasing these in the future.
Essence – Waterproof Gel Eyeliner
There really is only one bad thing about this eyeliner, and that it doesn’t hold true to its claim of being smudgeproof. It will smudge slightly if rubbed within a 1/2 hour of applying. After that it seems to set well, and it okay, totally smudge and waterproof. I never had an eyeliner that took so long to set, so it might be because it is a gel formula, not sure. I do like how vivid the colour is. It applies well, lasts forever. Just what you want in a waterline eyeliner.
I originally got this for doing lipart, so I could get finer black lines, but it ended up turning into a henna pen, haha. I used it most of the summer to doodle on my hands and arms. Something I use to do in highschool, during class or lunch. It has been fun to get back into it. It is not the most pigmented, and does like to settle into my fine lines. I probably would never use this as actual eyeliner. The pen is really easy to work with, and I am now excited to see if I can make my own refill for it, as an experiment. I might have to try to find a waterproof eyeliner pen now, that is better pigmented.
So that is that. After doing two of these now, I am surprised at the amount of makeup items I do end up using up. Mostly Mascara and Eyeliner, but that is what I wear the most of.
