Overload of Emails – How do you catch up???

Something a bit different for you today.

During the summer, I went on vacation, for 2 weeks. I was busy the week before, and then I was busy the week after, getting back into the normal routine of things.

The vacation was a no internet access one, so that was 2 weeks off the net. The before and after weeks were busy off the computer as well.

So I had about 4 weeks of no, or very minimal internet use.

I follow over 250 blogs. Some post not so much, and some post 4+ times a week. I easily get 30 to 75 posts in my inbox a day. It all adds up rather fast.

So think about it, 4 weeks of not reading any of those blog post emails . . .

I was a bit backed up.

It felt like a daunting task, but I really do enjoy these bloggers, and want to read their content. I have no issues with enjoying posts well after they were originally posted. I do miss out on some things, but I still read them.

How do I go about it though, to get the numbers down, and still deal with the new posts coming in? Well I have several strategies, to make it so I don’t get so fixated on the numbers and progress.

Brokedown Vanity - Overload of Emails - How do you catch up

Strategies on tackling your overflow of Emails:

  1. Go back a Month – If today was May 23rd, go back to April 23rd, and read all those posts.
  2. Look at the top of your email list, take the 5 blogs at the top and do an email search on them. It will bring up all their posts, and you can just read a bunch in order at once. I don’t like to read all the posts at once, as I’d rather spread the views for them over a decent amount of days, so their stats aren’t spiked all weird(that is just the fellow blogger in me).
  3. If you follow certain types of blogs, you can search keywords up. Like for me I use Books, Quilt, Empties, GWP, Knitting, Art, Music, Quote, Samples, Review, Look and so on. This will bring up stuff I might be more interested in reading right now, and it will cover a large amount of the blogs I follow.
  4. Read the first 10 posts on every page you have. My Gmail groups them in batches of 50. This will circulate your posts, and spread out the content you are reading, so you are reading both new and old. I do this from newest to oldest, and then the next time I will do it from oldest to newest.
  5. Calendar Roulette. This is where I just take the calendar, wave my finder about, and where it lands, I read that day’s posts.

These are all just fun ways to keep my emails read. I’m still backed up, but I am working on it. I really don’t mind, because I willing subscribed to these blogs, and enjoy the content.
