Edibles Review – President’s Choice – Poppyseed Melba Toast

Brokedown Vanity - Edibles Review - PC Poppy Melba Toast

For our Bonus Post today, it will be a review on President’s Choice Poppyseed Melba Toast.

I was first introduced to Melba Toast around when I was 9 years old. That was when I met my Adoptive Mom. While she was born in Canada, her family had roots in Europe. She still sat down for Tea at 10am and 2pm, if it was her day off. She would have her tea, and some sort of finger snack or treat. Melba Toast was a favorite of hers, and she would often toast them in the oven with cheese and prosciutto, or on the busier days, she would just put on some cream cheese and herbs. They remind me of a happier time, and I continued to purchase them for myself, when I was a teen, and subjected my friends to the wonders of fancy snacks(well as fancy as you can get out of a locker).

My Thoughts

As you have already read, I have been eating various kinds of Melba Toast for years now. How do these hold up?

Well, they are a really decent Melba Toast. The poppyseeds give a nice little extra flavour and crunch. The melba toast itself is good quality, can stand up to most things you would desire to throw on top of them. I have had these with jam, cheese and meat, cream cheese and even seaweed.

I find that with the wetter items, it is best to toast these in the oven a little bit, or to use the toaster oven. When putting meat and cheese, it is best to layer the cheese on first. When using jam and honey, put on a very thin layer.

If using these at a dinner party, I would suggest using things with less moisture as a topper. These wont hold up for even 1/2 hour with a thick spread.

These are actually great for dipping, they are very slim.

Repurchase?

Yes, I will. I enjoyed these. I have never had a Melba Toast that had added bits to the sides. Normally they embed whatever extras into the actual toast. It was a nice added dimension to a favourite item of mine.

The price is great for the amount of product you get, and they are often part of instore promotions. You can also find them at a good variety stores, so they are convenient to find.
