Edibles Review – T&T – Pinapple Cakes

Brokedown Vanity - Edibles Review - T&T Pinapple Cakes - Box

For our Bonus Post today, it will be a review on T&T Pineapple Cakes.

I have recently been getting adventurous with buying not only beauty products for myself and the blog, but also in what I get for my extras in life, those little things you get yourself as a treat, or for something to relax. I often get myself different teas, but have always been intrigued by the international isle at my local Real Canadian Superstore.

I like that they had a little message about the item.

I decided to start out small, and try some snack and treat type things. I saw these pineapple cakes for $0.80CAD, and thought that might be something I’d like. I didn’t even look at the ingredients, which was probably a bad thing on my part. I am normally a stickler for that sort of thing, due to all the allergies my husband and kids have.

There are a few things that probably would have given me pause, had I actually taken the time to read the ingredients. You will understand in a second.

So I eventually tried one of these, and I felt it had a really different smell. I am of german decent, so I am use to pastries that are “treats” that end up with meat and things in them. I just wasn’t expecting that smell from a pineapple cake. At first I thought maybe it was pig fat that they were fried in, which I am also fine with. The size of the cakes are about a Toonie and a half(Toonie is the canadian $2 coin, which is are largest circulated coin currency currently in canada). It wasn’t going to kill me if it was fried in some fat.

I popped it in my mouth, and loved the texture and flavour of the cake itself, it is almost like shortbread. The cake has a powdered feeling to it, and crumbles easily. The inside is a bit more moist, with the filling taking up a good portion of the inside. The filling was not too sweet, but pleasant in taste.

The after taste though, that was the killer. You could tell it has some sort of meat something or other going on, which was slightly off-putting(only mildly).

Those fats and sugars!

For people who aren’t use to the combination of meat tastes with fruit tastes, I don’t think you will like this, at all. I think I only was bothered by the initial tasting because I didn’t read the box, and I wasn’t expecting it. I really thought it was just going to be a sweet cake.

I did like these, but I can see how people might find them gross. I would not pair these with a nice sit down tea, but more as a companion to a hearty stew.

I will not be buying these again, while I am enjoying them(I have had 3 so far, partaking in one a week), and they aren’t bad per say, I was trying to find something to go along with my tea, and this just doesn’t suit.

I hope you enjoyed my bonus post today, I want this blog to remain primarily a beauty blog, but I love tea, and wanted to start trying some different edibles in life, to not be stagnant. I thought I’d share that, as bonus content on the blog.

‘Til the next post
