Beauty Product Favorites – March 2018

Brokedown Vanity - March 2018 Favorites - 1

I bought a lot last month, as it was the start of my journey back into the makeup game. I played with a lot of items, but these are the things I seemed to keep going for. Out of these items, there are some I am really impressed with.

Want to hear more? Well this might be a long-winded post, so please bare with me.

Brokedown Vanity - March 2018 Favorites - 2

Tarte – Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Paaarty

I am not much of a blush wearer, but a friend gave me a bunch of unused makeup items she had, hoping I could maybe do something with them for the blog. I was really surprised with this blush when I used it for the first time. I was able to get it to go on very lightly, but still make it enhance naturally. The colour is perfect for me too. It did last a good while, until I had to take my makeup off, but it wasn’t 12 hours, so I am not sure it it really lasts that long. It is long wearing for sure though.

Joe Fresh – Eyeshadow Trio in Modern Smokey Eye

When I first started getting some Joe Fresh items this month, I didn’t really think they would be all that great, quality wise. I was hugely surprised. These eyeshadows are nicely pigmented, and mix well with other brands. They last well over the course of the day. There is a little fallout while applying with a few of the shades(I have 2 trios I have been using, I just wear this one more). The dark shade in this one is super cool, because while it is black, it has a bit of fine glitter that is a greenish/sea colour. Such a cool element. These fit great in my purse if I need to bring them somewhere with me.

Wet n Wild – Eyeshadow Trio in Sweet as Candy

This one blends like a dream, and is pigmented well. I have worn this over 10 times last month. I like to mix it with the colours of the above mentioned trio. There is a little bit more fallout with this one, but that could be because of the quality of my brushes too, The pink colour packs on really nicely. I don’t even like pink normally and I like it.

Essence  – Superlast 24h Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in 10 Blonde

So I realized I had been using the same eyebrow definer for 10 years, by a company that no longer exists. While I obviously love it, and will still use it, since it hasn’t dried up, and is easily sanitized for storing, it was time to find something new. I had been gifted an Anastasia Brow Wiz, but it was too dark for my then still blonde hair. I wanted something still in pencil form, so picked up this one. I love that the brush also has a sharpener on it. It is a very easy to use product. I often forget I have my eyebrows done(I didn’t always do them in the past) and can say I’ve forgotten to wash them off. In the morning they still look fine, so it is really a 24 hour product. Now I just got to get one to match the red hair.

Rimmel – Extra Long Lash Length and Definition Mascara in 003 Extreme Black

I saw this on sale for super cheap, and I knew my most favorite mascara(which has been discontinued) was coming to the end of its tube, so I picked this up to try. I’m not totally happy it isn’t waterproof. My eyes water like no tomorrow, do to me being photosensitive and allergic to makeup in general. The package did say it was tested and suitable for sensitive eyes. It does give me the same look that I wanted(and got with the other mascara) so I am happy about that. The wand is great, and the tube hole is super tight, which gets a lot of the excess product off. Been super happy with this purchase.

Lancome – Defincils High Definition Mascara in Black

This was a sample my sister gave to me, and I needed to bust out a new mascara for my bottom lashes, so I thought, hey, why not. I was put off by the colour of this when I first opened it, it sort of looks navy blue. It does go on black though, so that is all that mattered. Due to the sample size, the wand is really small, which works super great for doing my lower lashes, which is exactly what I wanted. It doesn’t get them all clumpy and gross either. It is a very smooth and thin formula, which is perfect for where I want it.

BioSwiss – Pink Grapefruit Makeup Remover Facial Cleansing Wipes

This was not a product I expected to like. I got this at the local Dollar Haven and Discount in town, for a few bucks. I was doing a lot of swatching, and didn’t want to waste my good wipes on that sort of thing, so got these. They are perfect for what I need them for, and leave my arms/hands smelling great. I wouldn’t use them on my face, they are very thin and just too smooth. I wouldn’t think they would work out great for the face.

Marc Anthony – Strictly Curls/Curl it Up Extra Hold Volume Boost Spray

I got this when I chopped and dyed all my hair. My hair has gone all weird in the back, so now I get major curls back there. I want my hair to be more uniform all over, so this sort of lets the front curl a bit easier. I use it on wet hair, and spray it into my hands. Then I just rub them into the roots and pull out. It isn’t a hair spray nor is it an oil. I don’t know what it is but it makes my hair super shiny, less frizzy and more uniform. It lasts a few days too, as I only wash my hair every three days. I sometimes set it with hair spray, if I know I am going to be out and about for the first day.

Jenna Hipp – Essential Nail and Hand Cream

I was gifted this one too, and cracked it open recently. My feet have been in horrible disrepair, and the winter did not help them at all. I also detest socks, which doesn’t help my feet at all. I use this on my toes mostly, and it really does help them out. My cuticles don’t get as crazy as they normally do when I am putting this on. It also isn’t super smell, which is great, as I am allergic to most fragrances.

Live Clean – Fresh Face Nourishing Night Cream

I just started using this product this week. It is made in canada, 98% plant derived and hypoallergenic/dermatologist tested. I was super surprised at how soft my face was the next day, after the first night I used it. I couldn’t believe it, really. I have used it a few more nights now, and the difference is startling. Since I have never used a night cream before, I honestly don’t know if this is just that good, or if I just needed a night cream in general. I will have to try different ones to really know I guess. The only downside to this product is I seem to sweat under it, and it almost feels like it is trapped under the cream, which makes me think my skin isn’t breathing right. It’s hard for me to explain. It is the only face product I have ever noticed that sort of thing with.

Maybelline – Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

Man this stuff is great. I could really see a different in my face. I never used anything like this before either. I do have some big pore areas, have had them all my life. This does make them smaller and more filled. I learned it is better to sort of pat it on certain areas of my face, rather than smoothing it out. It was the first item out of everything I have been buying lately, that really seems to have changed my face and made it somewhat younger, when in use.

Joe Fresh – Universal Lip Liner and Primer in Clear

I saw a new launch of some product, I really can’t remember now, in the middle of march. On the display was a Universal Lip liner, and I was like, what the heck is this. Went home, researched it, and found out it really was an item I needed. See, getting old sucks. My lips have deeper grooves now, and these things prevent your lipstick from feathering. I now really wanted one! The new launch one(man I really can’t remember what brand) was like $8.99CAD(can remember that price though, haha) so I was like, lets see if anyone else has this amazing thing. Low and behold, Joe Fresh actually had one. It was a nice big thick one too, for only $6CAD. And it is a click stick, so I don’t have to sharpen it. It works great, and it is a new staple to my routine.

Eos – Visibly Soft Coconut Milk Lip Balm

I have never used eos before. I know, it has been out on the market, and has been hot for a good long while. I’ve had my many staples for lip balms, I just didn’t want to add another, which is usually between $5-$7CAD. But . . . hey . . . SALE??? Sure, I’ll finally try the thing! Haha, I am so silly. Now, I do probably have about 10 lip balms on the go, cause I have one in every travel bag, 2 in my purse, one in the car, one in my coat, 2 in the bathroom, one in the bedroom. Could I even use this thing? Yup, it is now my dedicated pre-lipstick balm. So I put this on after I cleanse/tone/moisturize my face. I like it so far. It works well, and keeps my lips feeling soft. I don’t feel it really helps with chapped lips at all, but heck, I got another balm for that!

5 of these Items I have actually already raved about on the blog, but I am just enjoying them so much.

You can check out the post with the Milani, e.l.f., Quo and Joe Fresh in my Lips of the Week #2 post HERE. I will say this, been using the Milani lipsticks like crazy(have 3 colours now), the Quo feels soooo good and the Joe Fresh Lipgloss is the best when having to just run out the door. I also wear the Annabelle Lipsies a lot, you can hear my thoughts on that in my Lets Try Annabelle Makeup Post HERE.

e.l.f. cosmetics – Lip Primer and Plumper

I was super happy to nab a bunch of e.l.f. stuff to try out, in my local walmart. This was something that seemed really interesting, and was on sale too, so in the cart it went. I have started to use this with each makeup look I do. I don’t always use both sides at once, it all depends on what I am doing that day. I do like the plumper, it really does wonders to my bottom lip. Doesn’t do a thing to my top lip, not sure why, haha. The primer is great with certain lipsticks, to help them last longer and stay budge proof. It is now a part of my routine.

Wet n Wild – Silk Finish Lipstick in Secret Muse

When I saw that there was some Wet n Wild Lipsticks on sale, I thought I’d pick a few up. It has been a long time since I use a lipstick from the brand. I use to get them for halloween costumes as a kid, and when I hit highschool, I used them every once in a while. This one in particular actually taught me something. I do have a goto shade, that one lipstick shade that you seem to accidentally pick up in every brand, every lip product type. I think I bought at least 3 lip liners, 2 lipsticks, 1 gloss and 3 liquid lips last month, all very close to this colour. This one is so smooth and light feeling on the lips, and lasts well for a traditional lipstick. I actually really like this one, and it was only $0.87CAD, so that was a bonus.

e.l.f. cosmetics – Lip Exfoliator in Mint Maniac

I can’t say I ever went out and purchased, on purpose, something to exfoliate my lips before. I was just so intrigued by all the e.l.f. items when I was shopping, I sort of just picked a bunch of random stuff to try out. I do have issues with my lips, mostly in the winter, but also when I try a lot of different products on in succession. This did help bring my lips back to a decent state, and it smells and tastes yummy too. This is now a product I use a few times a week, and I see it being a staple in the future.

Oh My, we made it! I am done blabbering! This is actually going out a bit late, cause I just kept typing. I said I wouldn’t then I went ahead and did it anyways.

I hope you found this useful, in some sort of fashion.

Now it is time for me to rest, haha.

Did you enjoy the post?
Do you guys use any of these products?
Do you want to see what I didn’t enjoy from last months purchases?

    1. It is sort of an interesting product, eh? I am glad the first one I got was decent. I have one of the Smashbox ones too, which I will be trying out. I like the erasing feature to the Maybelline one, but also want to see if others really do make a difference to makeup wear time.

It’s so nice when you find great items that aren’t priced up just due to brand name.
