Lips of the Week #1

Brokedown Vanity - LOTW - Mar16

Left to Right: Sweetgrass Soaps, Mineral Fusion, e.l.f., The Body Shop, Wet n Wild

I read a post from a fellow WordPress blogger last week, that spoke to me an I really loved.

Katie, of KatieEmmaBeauty, did a post about the products she wore on her lips for each day of the week. I did a little research and also found that a few years back Marie Claire did a post on their Official Website about a 7 Day Lipstick Challenge.

I had the thought this might be a great way to try to test some of the new products I have been gathering over the last 3 weeks. Problem was this; canada has had some rather weird weather, and it has been yo-yoing between +9C to -13C, temperature wise. This has caused utter havoc on my poor lips.

My initial reaction was to just leave it until they were a bit better. I had already missed posting what I wanted to on that friday, due to the lips. Monday came around, and I didn’t really want to lose another post to these cracked lips, so I checked my collection to see what I could wear. I was already deep into my Vaseline Lip Therapy, so whatever I chose would have to apply well on top of that, if I was going to use non balm products.

Products I Chose:

MondaySweetgrass Soaps – Margarita Lip Balm

This is a locally made product, which has all natural ingredients. I knew it wouldn’t bother my lips, so that is one of the reasons why I chose it.

TuesdayMineral Fusion – Sheer Moisture Lip Tint in Adorn

This product looks really dark, but goes on rather sheer. I personally like that, but if you are looking for something that is more opaque, this is not it. It mixes well with the Vaseline Lip Therapy, and actually seems to prolong the wear time.

Wednesdaye.l.f. – Aqua Beauty Radiant Gel Lip Stain

I use to wear a lot of lip stains back in the day, due to the environment I worked in. They make it easy for you to have a bit of extra colour, without having to take the time to touch up. Look more natural too. So I saw this one from e.l.f. and thought I would try it out.

The package takes forever to open, it is rather odd. I like the look of it though. Once applied, I am not sure if you are meant to keep it looking like almost a lipgloss. I just blot it after 5 minutes so that my lips were stained, then applied my Vaseline Lip Therapy on top. The stain power was great, lasted me a long time. The Formula feels really weird going on, it gets really cold, and my lips tingled a bit. Wasn’t expecting it, and can’t say I enjoy it. I don’t know if it is the product, or a reaction, the tingly part. It didn’t worsen the condition of my lips, but I will definitely have to try it when my lips are fully healed.

ThursdayThe Body Shop – Passion Fruit Lip Butter

I know these work for me no matter the condition of my lips. Have used them for years. Every year they have new flavors, and I normally pick up two or three. The Mango is my favorite.

Friday Wet n Wild – MegaSlicks Balm Stain in RED-dy or Not

I picked up a few of these recently, for the exact reason that is happening right now to my lips. I know when they are all gross, I can’t wear any of the more fancy products, there would be just too much discolouration and cracks. Most stains work with my Vaseline Lip Therapy, and I wanted some new stuff to replace the old.

I was super surprised at how pigmented this ended up. It mixed well with the vaseline, and had good lasting time. The colour was fun too! Bleeds a bit more than other balm stain sticks I have recently tried, but not so bad when you put on a firmer balm underneath. Use something with beeswax. Will have to try it on its own when my lips are okay again.

The whole range isn’t on the main site, seems like they might be getting cut from the lineup. Good news if you are canadian though, we are always late with makeup releases, so you will find most stores that carry Wet n Wild still have the full lineup of colours. Walmart.ca actually has a bunch you can order online still as well.

Brokedown Vanity - LOTW - Mar16 - Swatches

Left to Right: Mineral Fusion, e.l.f, Wet n Wild

I just realized that I have no clue where you are supposed to swatch lip products for best results. In the store I use the side of my thumb. For the blog, I seem to put everything on my inner wrist of back of arm.

Well that was a fun post, I definitely will do this again, if I can’t do my lip art posts for fridays.

‘Til Tomorrow
