Deodorant for those Allergic to the World

D-CFD

I am allergic to practically everything in the chemical family. Chances are any one product has at least 5 things I am automatically allergic to, if not more.

I use to wear a lot of mens deodorants when I was younger, because surprisingly, they just put less shit in them, and they actually work.

I had a few womens kinds I could use, and I just tried to rotate them, depending on the circumstances of that day.

A few years back I started to react to one of the ones I used fairly frequently, which lead me to realize they updated their formula. I had a bit of my Avon Roll-ons left, so was using those, until they too ran out. I could wear my Mens Speed Stick Irish Spring, but after a bit, you just don’t want to smell like trees and water anymore.

I tried a few products, but kept getting red and itchy bumps. My pores were just filling up and getting closed off. It was gross. If my hair was growing back in, I’d have some ingrown follicles appear. It was a nightmare if I had to shave.

I decided I might have to spring the money for the more expensive clinical deodorants. I tried Secret, Degree, and then finally Dove.

I can’t remember why I didn’t like Degree, but Secret was weird. Their formula was a clear almost gel-like stick, but for some reason I would feel very dried out after a day of using it. Keeping you from sweating buckets I guess is a good thing, but feeling all scaly after is not.

Now the Dove ones are nice. They are called Dove Clinical Protection(with Moisturizers). They are also Dermatologist Recommended.

I purchase the Cool Essentials, which is a very light cucumber and green tea sent. There is a Powder Soft(I assume is smells like baby powder???) and Original Clean(does it make your armpits smell like laundry???). I have only ever tried the cucumber one, haha.

The weird thing I find is that after the whole day, you can’t smell the scent anymore, but you also can’t smell any sweat either. There just seems to be a whole lot of nothing.

I have never had a breakout due to it, been using it for at least 2 years now. It hasn’t ruined any clothing that I could tell.

I find it very light, it is almost like a mousse, when you level it up the tube. It never feels cold either, and it normally sits in my purse on a hook at the outside kitchen door. This might not seem like a big deal, but I have had gel sticks freeze, and it is unpleasant.

The only thing I am not impressed by is the quantity. My old sticks I could get in a size 74g for about $4CAD normal price, and like $2CAD on sale. These never go on sale, and are always about $7.50ish CAD(Depending where you go in canada). The real kicker is for that price you only get 45g. For $15.50ish CAD you can get 100g in a big long tube.

I looked online and couldn’t find it cheaper on any sites. Dove sells it on Amazon for $7.47CAD for 45g. Walmart.ca and Shoppers Drugmart(call in to confirm your location’s pricing, they don’t have prices or ordering online) seem to sell it for the same as well. I purchase mine at The Real Canadian Superstore, the site didn’t even have the one I get, and the other two are $7.99CAD for 45g.

If you have issues with your allergies and beauty&health products, hopefully this post brings you a new possibility for your stinky, but still feminine, armpits.

‘Til Tomorrow,

Helen

  1. I’m pretty sure you are allergic to only a few ingredients that are in most deodorants, widmer also has a really good deo without (most) known irritants for very allergic people. You should compare this deo to one you actually get irritation from, you might be able to find the substance that irritates your skin šŸ˜€ and that would make deo picking life a lot easier.

    1. I was just being dramatic with my headline, but I am allergic to a plethora of things in most beauty products. I had an allergy test done a few years back on 100 different ingredients. I was having some massive flareups, so it led me to doing the test. I know most of what I can’t handle at least. Surprisingly one of the things is apricots, which are in a lot of beauty products as an oil/extract. Having eczema doesn’t help either. I use natural remedies too, like coconut oil, it is really good for an everyday deodorant, as long as you aren’t going to the gym, haha.

      1. Yeah I have eczema as well and a handfull of allergies mostly food allergies but I do tend to have problems with some cosmetics because of a emulsifier which comes from bananas. I stick with widmer since it’s not to expensive 8 euros for a deo. Might be more expensive in the usa
